BANA – EDAW 2022 Panel Discussion- What Do You Wish People Knew About Eating Disorders?

We know eating disorders are often misunderstood and not spoken about openly. For Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW) 2022, the Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association (BANA) a panel in discussion to:

  • Present diverse perspectives on Eating Disorders/Disordered Eating & Body image
  • Educate, inspire, and spark the audience’s curiosity and motivation to act and raise awareness
  • Expose others to individuals with various viewpoints

The panel is moderated by BANA’s Health Educators, Marisa Casey and Stephani Fenkanyn.

Dianne Bondy

Dianne Bondy is a social justice activist, author, accessible yoga teacher, and the leader of the Yoga For All movement. Her inclusive approach to yoga empowers anyone to practice—regardless of their shape, size, ethnicity, or level of ability. Dianne is revolutionizing yoga by educating yoga instructors around the world on how to make their classes welcoming for all kinds of practitioners. Dianne’s commitment to increasing diversity in yoga has been recognized in her work with Pennington’s, Gaiam, and the Yoga & Body Image Coalition, as well as in speaking engagements at Princeton, Duke, University of Buffalo and UC Berkeley on Yoga, Race, and Diversity. Sarah Berneche (She/Her), M.A., R.H.N., C.I.E.C. , Intuitive Eating, Body Image, and Diet Recovery

 

Sarah Berneche is a trauma-informed, size-inclusive Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor, and author of Enjoy It All: Improve Your Health and Happiness with Intuitive Eating (Fremont Press, 2020). She specializes in helping women and gender non-conforming folks find peace with food and feel comfortable in their skin by learning how to use their body as a resource in recovery.

Alexis Sauls Ramos, MSW, RSW

Alexis is a registered Social Worker specialized in treating adolescents and young adults with eating disorders. She is passionate about addressing the multitude of factors that make someone vulnerable to developing an eating disorder or disordered eating, including diet culture, weight bias, bullying, and media exposure.

Mackenzie Kovaliv

Mackenzie is a personal trainer and owner of Monstera Strength Coaching in Toronto, Ontario.

Having struggled and recovered from an eating disorder, awareness and prevention of eating disorders are at the heart of her service delivery. She aims to help her clients navigate away from the pressures of diet culture and achieve goals that are truly meaningful for them.

Mackenzie also has a background in providing supports to people with disabilities.
